ADSL broadband is a 'contended' (i.e. shared) service and performance can be affected by the:

  • Speed and type of ADSL service (ADSL 'Business' operate at a 20:1 contention ratio - ADSL 'Solo' services operate at a 50:1 contention ratio).
  • Number of other users curently using the service.
  • Length and quality of your BT telephone line.


The BT 'expected performance' figures are quoted as:
